* How it works

How selling hashpower on NiceHash works

NiceHash is a marketplace: buyers rent hashrate to mine the coins they choose, and your ASIC miner supplies it.

Buyers place orders

Buyers pay in advance for hashrate on one algorithm and point it at the pool of their choice. Their bids set the price, and the price moves with demand.

Your miner does the work

Your ASIC miner connects to the NiceHash server for its algorithm. NiceHash routes your hashrate to the buyers' active orders, so you never pick a coin or a pool yourself.

Paid for every accepted share

NiceHash pays for every accepted share in real time, at the current price of the algorithm. There are no blocks to wait for and no pool luck: the buyer carries that risk.

Paid in Bitcoin

Earnings are paid in Bitcoin, or in USDT if you choose it, to your NiceHash wallet. The money comes from the buyers; NiceHash runs the marketplace and keeps a fee.

* Step by step

How to sell hashpower on NiceHash with an ASIC miner

From a new account to an ASIC miner that earns Bitcoin on the marketplace.

1

Create a NiceHash account

Register on the NiceHash website with your email address and a password, then click the confirmation link NiceHash sends you. The account only becomes active after that confirmation.

2

Secure and verify the account

Turn on two-factor authentication, which NiceHash asks for at login, on withdrawals and on new orders. Complete the identity verification as well: NiceHash requires it for the wallet, so you need it before you can withdraw.

3

Copy your mining address

Open the Mining tab and click Mining address. This address identifies your account on the marketplace. It is not a Bitcoin wallet address, so never send coins to it.

4

Generate the stratum address

Open the NiceHash stratum generator, pick the algorithm your miner runs and copy the server address it shows. Every algorithm has its own address.

5

Enter the pool settings in your miner

Open the miner's web interface, paste the stratum address as the pool URL, enter your mining address followed by a dot and a worker name as the worker, and use x as the password. Save and let the miner restart.

6

Check the worker on the dashboard

Within a few minutes the worker appears in the Mining tab with its accepted hashrate and unpaid balance. If shares are rejected or the connection drops, switch from the SSL address to the TCP address.

* ASIC setup

Blake3 stratum+tcp://alephium.auto.nicehash.com:9200
Equihash stratum+tcp://equihash.auto.nicehash.com:9200
  • Check the exact line in the NiceHash stratum generator before you save it, because NiceHash can add or rename algorithm servers.
  • If the SSL connection does not work, use the TCP address. Adding #xnsub to the end of the address can help when shares are rejected.
  • Keep worker names to plain letters, digits, hyphens and underscores, and give every machine its own name so you can follow it on the dashboard.

A Lightning withdrawal adds a routing fee when the payment has to pass through other nodes. A withdrawal to another NiceHash account stays on the platform.

The lower firmware licence fee applies when the machine mines on NiceHash.

* Pool mining

When NiceHash pays more than pool mining, and when it pays less

The tables above compare both figures live. These are the reasons the gap opens in one direction or the other.

Why NiceHash can pay more

  • Buyers chase coins the pool figure does not cover: new coins, short profit spikes, or blocks they want to find on their own pool.
  • When demand for an algorithm outruns the hashrate on offer, buyers bid above what mining the coins pays.
  • You are paid per share in real time, so there is no pool luck, no wait for block confirmations and no coin to sell.

Where NiceHash pays more right now

KHeavyHash +39.7% Scrypt +29.3% Equihash +1.0%

Why a pool can pay more

  • Buyers only pay above mining when they expect a gain, so on many algorithms the marketplace price settles below the pool figure.
  • NiceHash keeps a service fee from every payout, and a withdrawal to your own wallet costs a blockchain fee.
  • A pool payout can include merged-mined coins and transaction fees that the marketplace price does not reflect.
  • On a pool you keep the coin and gain if its price rises; NiceHash pays you in Bitcoin at the price of the moment.

* Good practice

Risks of selling hashpower and how to manage them

What can cost you money on a hashpower marketplace, and the habits that keep it small.

Prices move with demand

The NiceHash price of an algorithm changes all day with buyers' orders. A miner that earns more on NiceHash in the morning can earn less at night, so check the comparison before you move a whole fleet.

Do not leave funds idle

NiceHash may not keep inactive funds in its shared wallet for long. Balances left untouched for weeks are moved to an individual blockchain wallet for a blockchain fee, and very small balances are used up by that fee. Withdraw regularly or set up automatic payouts to your own wallet.

Custody and security

Your earnings sit on a custodial platform until you withdraw them. Use a unique password and two-factor authentication, and move what you do not need to a wallet you control.

Rejected shares cost money

Only accepted shares are paid. A slow or unstable connection turns work into rejected shares, so use a wired network, the exact stratum address for your algorithm and one worker name per machine.

Firmware, heat and noise

Selling hashpower does not change how hard the machine works. Custom firmware with automatic tuning charges its own licence fee on top of the NiceHash fee, so count it in, and keep the miner cool and dust-free.

Electricity decides the profit

NiceHash pays for hashrate, not for your power bill. The calculator subtracts electricity at your rate; a miner that runs at a loss on a pool usually runs at a loss on NiceHash too.

Solo lottery miners are not on this page: what they offer is the chance of a whole block, and selling their hashpower gives that chance away. Their odds are on the solo mining page.

NiceHash calculator FAQ

The questions sellers ask most before they connect an ASIC miner to NiceHash.

It depends on the algorithm and the hour. NiceHash pays what buyers bid, a pool pays what the coins are worth after its own fee. The tables on this page put both figures side by side for every algorithm and every ASIC miner, live, so you can see which side is ahead right now.

NiceHash pays for every accepted share in real time at the current price of the algorithm and pays the balance out in Bitcoin, or in USDT if you choose it. The payout lands in your NiceHash wallet, and from there you withdraw to your own wallet.

NiceHash pays out several times a day by default, or once a day if you switch to daily payouts in your settings. When you disconnect a miner, its remaining balance is still paid out once it is above the minimum. The exact intervals are in the fee table on this page.

The minimum payout is a very small Bitcoin or USDT balance, shown in the fee table on this page, so even a single small ASIC miner gets paid regularly. A withdrawal from the NiceHash wallet to your own wallet has its own, higher minimum.

NiceHash keeps a service fee from every payout to your NiceHash wallet, and a withdrawal to an outside wallet costs a blockchain or Lightning fee. NiceHash firmware adds a licence fee if you run it. The current figures are in the fee table on this page.

It is the identifier you enter in your miner in place of a wallet address, so the marketplace knows which account to credit. You find it in the Mining tab. It is not a Bitcoin wallet address, so never send coins to it.

Use the address the NiceHash stratum generator shows for your miner's algorithm. Every algorithm follows the same pattern with the algorithm name at the start, in a plain TCP version and an SSL version. The pool settings on this page show the format and the address for each algorithm listed here.

NiceHash requires identity verification for its wallet, so you need it before you can withdraw what your miner earns. It asks for an ID document, proof of address and a short liveness check, and two-factor authentication is required for withdrawals.

Any ASIC miner that runs an algorithm with a NiceHash market can connect with the standard pool settings. Solo lottery miners are left out of this page because they are judged on block odds; see the solo mining page for them.

Buyers place and cancel orders all the time, and each order carries its own bid. When demand for an algorithm rises, the price NiceHash pays rises with it, and when coin prices or network difficulty move, buyers adjust their bids within minutes.

Yes. Every profit figure on this page subtracts electricity at your rate, while the income figures show what NiceHash and a pool pay before electricity. Change the rate in the settings and every figure on the page updates.

Balances you do not use for a long time are moved to an individual blockchain wallet for regulatory reasons, and that transfer costs a blockchain fee that can use up a very small balance. Regular withdrawals or automatic payouts to your own wallet avoid it.

On NiceHash you sell hashrate share by share into a shared market, and buyers' orders set the price. On MiningRigRentals you rent out a whole rig for a fixed time at a price you set yourself. Our MRR rental calculator compares that marketplace with pool mining in the same way.
