Nano S Plus recovery phrase

Nano S Plus recovery-phrase insights: record words in order, keep them offline and numbered, use metal and separate backups, test in private.

A recovery phrase is a human-readable list of words that represents your private keys and lets you restore access to your crypto if the device is lost or broken. Setting up a hardware wallet begins with installing the companion app on a trusted computer and choosing the option to initialize a new device. After connecting the hardware wallet you will be prompted to choose a PIN to protect local access to the device. The PIN prevents casual physical access but does not replace the need to secure the recovery phrase. Next the device generates the recovery phrase on its own screen and never exposes it to the internet. You must write each word in the exact order shown and store that list offline. These phrases normally follow the BIP39 mnemonic standard which ensures broad compatibility across wallets. Use the printed recovery sheet included with the device or use a dedicated notebook and always number the words. Do not copy the phrase to any digital medium, do not take photos, and do not store it in cloud services or password managers. Digital storage can be compromised and defeats the primary security benefit of cold storage. Make at least two independent backups and keep them in geographically separated, secure locations such as a safe or a safety deposit box. Consider a metal backup for long-term durability against fire, water, and decay. Some users add an optional passphrase for an extra layer of security; remember that a passphrase is not stored anywhere by the device and if you lose it you will lose access permanently. When confirming the phrase on the device you will be asked to select each word in order to prove you recorded it correctly. The recovery phrase alone is sufficient to restore funds on any compatible wallet, but be aware that derivation paths and passphrase settings can affect where accounts appear. Treat the recovery phrase as the ultimate secret and reveal it to no one. For maximum safety perform the setup in a private place, keep the initial transfer of funds small while you verify the backup process, and prefer air-gapped or fully isolated setups if you manage large sums. In sum, the recovery phrase is the single most critical element of secure key management, and careful offline storage combined with device PINs and optional passphrases creates a resilient defence against theft and accidental loss.
