Crypto scam prevention
Covert insights to stop crypto scams: spot rug pulls, phishing, SIM swaps; revoke approvals, use cold wallets, separate accounts, act fast.
I write this as a quiet warning and a small confession. Crypto scams are attempts to steal digital assets by exploiting trust and technology. They come in many forms and they all want one thing. Rug pulls are projects that abandon holders after selling out. Pump and dumps are groups that hype an asset and then sell to others. Phishing uses fake sites or messages to steal logins and secret recovery phrases. Airdrop tricks send tokens that lead you to malicious sites or request dangerous approvals. SIM swapping gives attackers control of two factor codes and social accounts. Cloud mining and fake investment schemes promise easy returns and then vanish. Fake job ads and fake apps ask you to pay or install malware. Giveaway and impersonation scams use fame and urgency to push you into mistakes. Extortion and romance scams use shame or affection to extract crypto. Many scams use malware or spyware to change your screen or read your files. Others use persuasive social engineering to make you reveal private keys. Some rely on blind approval of smart contract functions so bad actors can move your assets forever. The blockchain is pseudonymous, so tracing thieves is hard and recovery is rarely simple. I learned this the hard way and say it without blame. Prevention matters more than regret. Use a signer device to keep private keys off internet connected devices. Keep at least one cold account for your most valuable holdings. Use separate accounts for riskier interactions. Do not click unknown links when you are connected to a wallet with value. Never reveal your secret recovery phrase. Check transaction details before signing. Revoke suspicious approvals with a trusted tool. Do your own research on contracts and projects before you act. If you are scammed act fast. Revoke approvals. Move assets to a new account or wallet. If your recovery phrase is exposed create a completely new wallet and transfer funds. Report crimes to local authorities and use blockchain reporting tools to flag malicious contracts and addresses. I offer this as a sober guide. The landscape is full of risk and also full of opportunity. Protect your assets with humility and vigilance. Learn from mistakes and keep transacting with care.
